Last year I was able to enter the information and the credit was added to my NJ State Return. This year it does not ask me if I am eligible which I still am.
You'll need to sign in or create an account to connect with an expert.
You may add the credit at the screen Wounded Warrior Caregivers Credit in the New Jersey state tax return.
The Wounded Warrior Caregivers Relief Act provides a tax credit to qualified family caregivers who take care of a military service member who has a disability arising out of service in any war or conflict on or after September 11th, 2001.
To be eligible for the credit, your gross income must be $100,000 or less ($50,000 if single or married filing separate). The credit is the lesser of the federal disability compensation of the armed services member or $675.
A relative includes: Spouse, Parent, Child, Brother, Sister, Grandparent, Grandchild, Great-grandparent, Great-grandchild, First Cousin, Nephew, Niece, Aunt, Uncle, and all preceding relationships by marriage.
A qualifying armed service member is one who:
- Was honorably discharged or released under honorable circumstances by the last day of the tax year, and
- Has a disability arising from active U.S. military service in any war or conflict on or after September 11, 2001, and
- Has either a 100% disability rating or receives individual unemployability benefits (one disability of at least 60% or two disabilities with a combined rating of at least 70% and one of those is at least 40%), and
- Lived with you in New Jersey for at least six months of the tax year.
Thank you for your response.
As I mentioned, last year I used the NJ Wounded Warrior Caregivers Credit and am well aware of the credit.
What I need to know is HOW can I apply for this credit THIS year as I am not prompted to answer any questions that would add this credit to my current NJ tax return.
Thanks.
I am having the same problem, and I have spent over six hours on the phone now with turbotax live advisors. There is no question that populates that even asks about the wounded warrior caregiver credit. Last year a question populated, but this year nothing does. I have now had seven experts, go line by line. And no questions populate for the And no questions populate for this wounded warrior Caregiver credit. I am level 22 IT tech and this is definitely an issue. It's on H&R Block. But I really don't want to have to switch there after spending over seven hours doing my taxes on here. Plus the six hours in phone calls. I've contacted both the IRS and New Jersey state of taxation. This form should be on here. There are also, multiple people asking about it on Facebook on the state of New Jersey. Saying they can't find it.

As you click through the screens when preparing the NJ tax return, you will come to the following screen, on which you can enter the information necessary to take the credit on your state return.
The Wounded Warrior Caregivers Relief Act provides a tax credit to qualified family caregivers who take care of a military service member who has a disability arising out of service in any war or conflict on or after September 11th, 2001.
The credit is equal to 100% of the federal veteran disability compensation, or $675, whichever is less.
You are eligible for this credit if you provided care for a relative who is a qualifying armed services member and your gross income was $100,000 or less (married, filing joint; head of household; qualifying widow(er)) or $50,000 or less (single; married, filing separate). @JB173
