Well I just updated TT and it appears that this fixed the issue with Form 8936. fingers crossed that my returns are accepted!!!
Can someone help me understand form 8911? I put in the cost of a Tesla HPWC that I had installed last year, but it keeps coming back as a $0 credit. Reading the limitations of the credit, I'm not sure why I'm not qualifying for the 30% credit. My tax liability was well over what the credit would provide. Is there something else at play here (or is this a TT math problem again)?
I resubmitted after the first rejection but prior to the update I found this AM. My resulting credit is the same so I wonder if I will get another rejection or if it will be accepted. Wait and see I guess.....
I efiled last night after the updates to 8936 and 8911 came through. Just got message my return was rejected.
Turbotax sucks. They have lost me as a customer.
@shareef777 see the 8911 instructions:
"Line 17 Although you may not owe alternative minimum tax (AMT), you must still figure the tentative minimum tax (TMT) to figure your credit. Complete and attach the applicable AMT form or schedule and enter the TMT on line 17."
If you do *not* pay AMT but are *close* to paying AMT, the combination of the 8936 credit and the 8911 credit can result in you getting nothing for 8911. It is just how the credit is structured.
geeze, now what? Are you sure you got today's updates? What the hell is going on here?
@scdaren same here, rejected again. Unbelievable.
Rejected again
Thanks for that info. Looks like the credits I get for my children are bringing me directly to the AMT amount which negates this credit. Funny, wouldn't of thought a child credit would have anything to do with a vehicle credit, but when does anything make sense with the IRS.
We are doing testing for TT, they should pay for us.
I e-filed a third time and was rejected again with the same message:
"FDI_8936_EVCredit_ErrorHold - Your tax return is on hold pending ongoing updates to calculations on Form 8936, Qualified Plug-In Electric Drive Motor Vehicle Credit. We plan to have the updates to the form done on February 20th, 2019."
February 20th, 2019 of course was 365 days ago, but regardless it doesn't seem like anyone knows what they are doing over there.
what the F, this is crazy. I am thinking of using H&R block online if this isn't resolved soon.
Based on the message, I think TT rejected it, not IRS.
Rejected again. Followed their instructions. Zero substantive communication on their end to end customers to explain, the explanations they give are vague and even when followed still result in rejections.
I'm at a complete loss for words. TurboTax has always been so straight-forward when I use it and this year has been a complete failure. I understand that mistakes happen, it's the lack of transparency and communication that has scarred my view of them.
Guess I'll just file taxes whenever TurboTax decides it's okay for me to do so, versus mine or the IRS timeline.
I just got second rejection. To be fair I submitted prior to the newest TT update. I will now file a third time to see if it goes after the updates to TT forms. Fingers crossed.
