Tax Year Prior to 2020: Form 8936 (2019)

You should clear/ delete the form and let the TT calculations work. Don’t put anything manually when it comes to $ numbers.  You will see $7500, before calculations.   It should work, and the amount credit should be $3750, until june30.

Tax Year Prior to 2020: Form 8936 (2019)

Tesla here as well. I filed around midnight last night and the calculations were correct - double and triple checked the Form 8936 before submitting for e-file and everything was right ($7500 / 50% / $3750) so TT seemed fixed, but then this morning I got an email that it was rejected because the fix was still pending? Even though it was out? Weird. Filed again just now with absolutely no changes made, and it got accepted this time.

Tax Year Prior to 2020: Form 8936 (2019)

I just submitted for the 3rd just now on a model 3 purchased in March. Credit came out to 3,750 which is right. I even looked at the form and it looks right. We will see???

Tax Year Prior to 2020: Form 8936 (2019)

I looked at my tax credit since the change here on the turbo tax program and it shows $1875.  It should be $3750 since I purchased my Tesla March 2019.  What am I missing?? When I put 3750 in the input field to change the value, it doesn't.

Delete and start over on that section of your credits. Don’t manually change the $7500 to $3750. It changes it for you at the end. I had same issue. We will see if it actually works? I just submitted for the 3rd time. Bought my Tesla same time as you

@copterguy

The credit for a Tesla is $7500. It'll get auto adjusted based off of purchase date (50% if between Jan and June, 25% if between July and Dec).

I just tried for a 3rd time. It says the correct number. Lets hope it works!

Edit: Federal return was accepted.

I am pleased to see that TT is now correct and working for most everyone to receive the accepted notice....  It has been a journey!

Tax Year Prior to 2020: Form 8936 (2019)

Can anyone confirm that on the page that says "YOUR CREDIT RESULTS", do we enter 7,500?  And then do we let the program calculate the correct number?   I entered 7,500 earlier this morning and it was rejected after sending it back thru TT to the IRS.

I let the TT software enter $7500, I left it this time around. It calculated down to $3750 correctly and mine was accepted.

@jcoop12 if you delete your EV entry and restart, it should calculate correctly. It should calculate $7500 for you and automatically reduce it to $3750 (if it's 50%). You can see if it did it right by looking at the forms. BEFORE you submit it for e-file, select the option to download the Federal form and open it in adobe. Then, search for "8936" and look for form 8936. There in the fields you should see for 4a a value of $7500, and 4b a value of 50% or 25%, and for 4c, it should be 4a multiplied by 4b (so $3750 or $1875). If these values look right, you should be good to go.  Previously, 4a and 4b were correct, but 4c was always $7500 instead of the multiplied "Tentative Credit" amount - which was the error.

So check the form to make sure it's been done right before e-filing 🙂

@Anonymous  Thanks for the info I will try it again.

@jcoop12

Yes, enter $7500 as that's the base credit for a Tesla. It'll auto calculate from that number based on the date of purchase. Be sure you have the latest version as they did release a fix.

Submitted my filings ... finally.

A little disappointed that the state e-file was not included (read the fine print I suppose). It's very disingenuous when TT sells their software as "TurboTax Tax Software Deluxe + State 2019". That's the listing verbatim from Amazon. Typical/shameful TT. Can't wait to get my refund so I can be completely done with this company.

How long after fed return accepted notice should we expect the State accepted notice?
