Form 8889-S and Form 8889-T

Why did TT create Form 8889-S and 8889-T when I don't have a HSA? The form shows a lot of zero entries. Is this a glitch? Should I just delete these two forms?

Do you have an MSA? Do you have a carryover of excess HSA contributions? Do you have a form 5329 for any reason?

It is not unusual for TurboTax to create extra forms when working on your return. However, TurboTax doesn't file those forms if they are not required.

No MSA. No carryover. No 5329.

Generated with all zeros.

I don't think this is an issue. As I noted, forms are generated from time to time, but, like yours, are full of zeros and don't get filed.

When you file, choose the option to see only those forms that are required for filing, and see if the 8889s are still there.

And even if they are for some odd reason filed, an 8889 full of zeros will have no impact on your return. You can prove this by deleting the forms now and seeing if your refund or tax due changes.

To delete a form in the Online product, go to Tax Tools on the left (when you return is open), then click on Tools underneath, then in the center, click on Delete a Form.

To delete a form in the desktop product, go into Forms mode (upper right), select the form on the left, then click on Delete at the button of the form screen.

Glad you brought up the forms required for filing. I am using the MAC desktop version of TT. When I go to print it allows me to print or do a PDF of all the forms and worksheets. No option to just look at what is being submitted. Been using this for years and this is the first time the option is gone.

Another glitch that will be fixed I hope.
