Finally got it to work. I do not have a Mac and using Windows so the restarting and getting updates did not work. However what did work was under "Business Expenses" then under "Common business expenses", there is a category "Energy Efficient Commercial Buildings Deduction". Here I had to remove the "0" entry and just leave it blank. Once I did this, the requirement for the 7205 form went away and was able to file. I was using Turbo Tax Business for Windows.
Yes, Mr. Ed. From what I've read that's what people with Windows have to do. I'm glad it worked. 😀👌🏻
This worked for me as well, on windows 10 using TurboTax Business.
I can confirm removing the zero from that field corrects the issue.
I hope they fix this next time around...
This did it! I was using Home and Business and could not find this until you walked me through it. Thanks!!!
You're very welcome. I'm definitely a believer in "fabulous finishes" ! Ahem. 😉
TurboTax 2023 Business Desktop Form 7205 PROBLEM (ANSWER)
1. In the Program, click on the FEDERAL TAXES tab
2. Click on Deductions
3. scroll down to BUSINESS EXPENSES catagory
4. Click on (update/start) COMMON BUSINESS EXPENSES (it should be the first one)
5. (alphabetized) Scroll down until you see ENERGY EFFICIENT COMMERCIAL BUILDINGS DEDUCTION
6. You will see a 0 in the amount section as the programs default number. Backspace it/Delete it so there is no number in that field.
Your problem is now fixed and you may e-file your return when ready.
Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!! Finally got past that and filed 🙂
Hi Folks. I couldn't get the Form 7205 requirement to go away so that I could efile my 1040 using TT Home and Business. I tried a few different things. The folks who said that we needed to get rid of the 0 on line 27b were on to something. Problem was that I couldn't get the cursor to stay on the 0 box so that I could backspace and delete the 0 AND the decimal point. I tried right clicking on the box. One of my menu options was to override. I clicked on that and that was when I could get the cursor to stay and then backspace. I never found anything that said delete. Anyway, that is what worked for me. I hope this helps someone else. I also hope that i remembered the details correctly. smiley face emoji here.
Thanks, Dan ! You're the man ! 😁🫵🏻
Thanks Dan,
That's what I found out after working with TurboTax help that overriding was all you could do at this time. It worked for me.
wow you in the "Forms" view when you deleted the number, or in the "Step-by-Step" view?
I was never able to delete the number in the Forms view, but it was easy to delete in the step-by-step view.
Its got to be a glitch
Some users who have stated that they do not own or rent any real estate or property for business were still being prompted to complete Form 7205, and it was preventing e-filing.
Users encountering this situation have found the following solution works when using TurboTax Home and Business:
In Business Expenses, under Other Common Business Expenses, search the list and you will find "Energy Efficient Buildings". Select Update and delete the 0 amount or other amount that appears.
This is done in the "step by step" view of Turbo Tax, NOT in the Forms view.
Thanks to you and God for the help! Didn't want to print and send snail mail.
I experienced this problem of an "Energy Efficient Building" deduction problem while working on my 2024 Federal Tax return. I tried everything, even printing out the 7205 Form in order to complete it. However, nothing on the form applied to me. I worked on this problem for over five (5) hours!!!! This was very frustrating and made no sense!!! After performing a Google search, I came across your recommended solution. Thank You Very Much!!!!!!! I was very disappointed with Turbo Tax for creating this issue because I expected better from their product.
