I recently asked a question about FBAR. I was told that I need to report the account associated with credit card, but not the credit line of the card. Now I want to send FBAR, but still have question. I have a credit card with a 5k credit limit. If I don't need to mention credit line, should I then write the account number and put just 0.00$?
You'll need to sign in or create an account to connect with an expert.
You do not report credit cards on a FBAR.
Credit card lines are credit facilities. Credit card balances are debts, not assets.
My bank gave me a statement that says that there is an account is linked to my credit card (4XXXXXXXXXXXXXX). Do I need to report it then, and if so, what should I specify? 0.00$?
Maybe I just not understand correctly, but if its possible please clarify for me.
Best regards
If the linked bank account did not have a reportable balance during 2020, you don't report it.
The foreign asset reporting requirements apply to "assets" - an account with no reportable balance during the year is not an "asset".
For filing thresholds, see: Comparison of Form 8938 and FBAR Requirements
Thank you for reply. I am an individual and have only my own accounts and do not have companies or the right to sign and so on. I live in Russia and I have more than 25 accounts, because in Russia this is normal. I had 10k in one account. But now I have to specify all the accounts, these accounts were mostly 50-200 dollars, and some even have a constant balance of 0 rubles. How do I fill in the FBAR, they said something strange, skip part 2 and 3. And then what to do?
Best regards
You only need to report on your FBAR accounts with an active balance during the year if the account has a maximum balance of zero during the year, it does not meet the reporting threshold.
Part II is continuation of separate accounts if you run out of room entering your accounts and Part III is used for entering Joint accounts.
As you are an individual, you would not use Part III.
You will need to submit your FBAR to the BSA Website.
