TurboTax Deluxe with State still insists on entering 300. I tried changing it to 600 and to 0, and it always goes back to 300. We are filing jointly. I can change it to 600. and TurboTax recalculates, but if I do Final Review it goes back to 300 with the message "Charitable Contributions has an unacceptable value".
I have not tried to actually file without circling back through final review. I am waiting for an update. This remains a serious programming problem.
I should have added that I actually have $405 cash contributions so far, but this $405 amount still does not work. If I enter $405, the program reverts to $300 with the error message.
The real sad part about this is that I reported this issue for last year and here we are a year later without a solution. Absolutely worst customer support ever. I will be heading to H&R after this!
@mpabst@Dennisp17 It depends if you are entering contributions as charitable donations. Please follow the steps outlined below to see if this is a practical solution to move on.
If you are working in Desktop first remove all charitable donations as described above. After this is done, perform the following steps while you are working in the deductions and credit section.
Omg! I have been working on this for hours. THANK YOU! I deleted my goods donation, and just entered the amount of cash donations, and it worked!
This may come a a bit of a shock to you, but the screen I get after hitting continue on the standard deduction screen is other tax situations. Then it goes on to the e-file screen where I get caught in that stupid infinite loop, and my taxes never get filled. Your workaround fixes are worthless. I gave you a week to fix this. My next step is demanding my money back. If I don't get that, I'm contacting local media to get involved and the consumer fraud division of the district attorney's office. After spending 12 hours if my time on this I don't think that's unreasonable for a problem you seem to be unable or unwilling to fix.
Had the same issue on my desktop version of TurboTax. Followed DaveF1006's steps and it's working with MFJ $600 amount. Thanks!
I had the same issue, and mine went away after updating my HSA distribution information from my 1099-SA which I had previously forgotten to enter. This also fixed the issue with TurboTax not identifying to me that form 1116 was not finalized. So perhaps the review step has issues when data has not been entered on expected forms/steps skipped in the step by step.
Married couples filing jointly can claim $600, so enter $600 (not $300) if this applies to you. This should solve the issue.
I am having the exact same problem... Spoke to TT support 3 times - they are aware but....... still no fix.
I was not aware this happened last year. It makes me nervous that other calculations (etc.) may be in error as well.
Awaiting a confirmation from Intuit.
Am having this problem too.
I followed the instructions/fix to delete the Charitable contributions since I am using a standard deduction and was able to file my Federal taxes. But the state (CA) rejected my return and said there was an issue with Charitable contributions.
Turbotax even added a note telling me to go through the detailed charitable worksheet on the FEDERAL side to maximize my deduction. But now and getting the error gain on the $600 married standard charitable deduction and it wont let me file my state taxes.
Help here Intuit!
Do what I did. Ask intuit for a refund and use h&r blocks software. Intuit obviously not interested in fixing the core problem.
