8829/SALT error message

Also, it seems that even if TurboTax shows it as error, you can still efile taxes with those entries in Form 8829.

Will there be any issue by filing electronically even if Turbo Tax shows error.

As long as all of the information entered into your return is correct then filing should still be fine.

I am having the same issue.  Does anyone know if this has been reported to Turbotax for them to fix?

8829/SALT error message

I still see error in Turbotax for the form 8829.  I believe you can still efile taxes by ignoring that error.  As long as you correct the property taxes manually on Schedule A, everything else is correct.  You have to enter the full property tax on Schedule A.  TT then deducts the right amount from it what you claimed for home office use from the total tax.  It also calculates everything properly for state taxes for itemized deduction.

If TT does not fix this issue, I will still efile even if TT shows error for from 8829 as long as there are no other errors.

Are you sure you can still e-file with this error?

8829/SALT error message

I believe it can be done, as i did see the option but I have not done it as yet.  After review of your return it will show were the errors are.  You then see an option to continue or run error check again.  If you select continue, it will efile.  I believe it is the same as printing the form and sending it, you can still print the return even if turbo tax shows error.

Cannot efile with this error. When will it be fixed??

8829/SALT error message

I don’t believe you can e-file with the error.

I was on the phone for over 2 hours with different representatives at Turbtax. Nobody knows how to fix it. One person told me to split the real estate taxes between the 2 8829’s which is wrong. One person told me call a CPA which almost made me lose my mind.

They opened a case for me and someone was supposed to email me by today. I have heard nothing.

So frustrating.

8829/SALT error message

I have tried to efile with the error and it literally bounces me back to fix the errors over and over again. I don't understand what the right numbers are supposed to be, so I can't put the numbers in manually. I mean, this is why I use TT, so it can do the figuring for me.

So I'm stuck until TT fixes the bug! And I'm due back money...ugh!

I have no idea how TurboTax asks for things and TurboTax isn't handing it well, but that error in itself is probably correct.

The "excess" real estate tax goes on line 17.

But as I said, I am not sure how TurboTax asks for things and why it isn't splitting it up automatically.

8829/SALT error message

But this is not really a case of excess real estate taxes.  It is 2 small percentages of total real estate taxes that do not exceed the Salt cap.  The program is adding the total real estate taxes (not the allocated portion) across both forms and saying it exceeds the cap.  But the smaller allocated portions do not.

Yes it is, that is excess real estate tax.

This is again why TT should be doing the work, so that it's done properly and isn't a guessing game as to where it goes and what the appropriate numbers are.

WHY IS IT TAKING THEM SO LONG TO FIX THIS?
