The State and Local income taxes and the property taxes paid are limited to a total paid of $10,000 as an itemized deduction on Schedule A if you are filing as Married Filing Jointly. This maximum amount is due to the tax code changes in effect for tax years 2018 thru 2025.
The combined total of taxes for your State and Local Tax Deduction (SALT) includes your state and local income tax deductions that were withheld from your employer, or you can choose state sales tax if that’s greater. You can find state and local withholdings in box 17 and/or 19 of your Form W-2.
For additional information, review the TurboTax Help articles: What are state and local tax deductions?, Can I claim the sales tax deduction? and Which deduction should I choose, state and local income tax or sales tax?
