Old HSA

I have an old HSA through a previous employer. I haven’t contributed to it since I left that company, but have used the card for small things like prescriptions etc. I haven’t received any forms in the mail. Do I need to to include it in my taxes?

Old HSA

Yes. You should have received a 1099-SA for any withdrawals. Check the website of your administrator to download Form 1099-SA.  If you don't see it on the website, you will need to contact your administrator for the form.

The IRS requires you to prepare Form 8889 and attach it to your tax return when you take a distribution from an HSA.

HSA distribution aren't taxed that are spent on qualifying health expenses aren't taxed.

For more information, review the TurboTax What Is IRS Form 1099-SA: Distributions from an HSA, Archer MSA, or Medicare Advantage MSA? for more information.
