I'm working on 2024 taxes with Turbo Tax Deluxe 2024. I entered qualified solar electric property costs for a rooftop solar panel installation that we had completed in 2024. It is telling me we qualify for $0 credit. That is not correct. On the Form 5695 inside TurboTax, the correct amount for the system installation is listed on line 1. TurboTax is NOT, however, adding that amount to the total for line 6a, and so it also is NOT calculating the 30% credit on line 6b. And so NO credit is being brought down to line 13. So this appears to be an error in this version of Turbo Tax Deluxe. I'm printing Form 5695 and reading through the complete instructions myself, and will complete it manually. I also do NOT see a way to make TurboTax let me override what it is(not) entering on this form.

In order to take a closer look at the situation you described and try to offer a solution, it would be useful to have a diagnostic copy of your tax data file. The diagnostic file will not contain personally identifiable information, only numbers related to your tax forms.
If you would like to provide us with the diagnostic file, follow the instructions below and post the token number along with which version of TurboTax you are using (Deluxe for Windows, or Deluxe for Mac) and what states you are filing in a follow-up thread.

So, I just opened TurboTax to work on my return again tonight. It downloaded and installed an update and now the issue with the solar credit is fixed. I purchased TurboTax and downloaded it from Amazon, as I've done in recent years. Usually, after the initial install is complete, it looks for updates to download and install. I don't recall if it actually did that yesterday or not, but I'd definitely recommend that once people install the software, close it and reopen it so it can look for the most current updates.
