Is an adjunct professor, teaching entirely online out of his home and receiving a W-2 entitled to take office in home expenses?

The home office is his only office, the college does not provide him an office.

No, all W2 job expense deductions have been suspended under the new tax laws until 2025.  Depending on your state, you may still be able to take the deduction, but not for federal.

"You can no longer claim any miscellaneous itemized deductions that are subject to the 2% of adjusted gross income limitation, including unreimbursed employee expenses. "https://www.irs.gov/publications/p529
