My 1098 lists real estate taxes but I know that it includes garbage and recycle fees. Do I have to zero it out and calculate it manually without the fees elsewhere?

Yes, just leave the box blank on the 1098 and enter the proper amount as property taxes paid.

HOW TO ENTER PROPERTY TAXES PAID:

Sign in and open your return, Click “Pick up where I left off” (for online)

Type    property tax   into the search box and click the “Jump to property tax”  link

Answer “Yes” to “Did you pay property or real estate taxes in 2018?”

Enter the amount paid on the next screen.

Click Federal

Click Deductions & Credits

Scroll down to "Your Home" Click Show More

Scroll down to "Property (Real Estate) Taxes" Click Start
