Medical expenses worksheet (Schedule A, line 1), line 2b

On the Medical Expenses Worksheet for schedule A, line 1, Line 2b "Tax payer's portion of 1095-A premiums (total less spouse)", what does "total less spouse" mean? I have never encountered this on previous returns.

Thanks

Please clarify where you are seeing this statement.

  1. Is it in the medical deductions? (I do not see this in either version of TurboTax).
  2. Is it when you are entering your 1095-A?
  3. Which software are you using, TurboTax Desktop or TurboTax Online?
  4. Are you using step-by-step if using TurboTax Desktop?

Once we have additional details we can help with your specific question.

If you would like to send us a “diagnostic” file that has your “numbers” but not your personal information it would help.  If you would like to do this, here are the instructions:

TurboTax Online:

Go to the black panel on the left side of your program and select Tax Tools.

  1. Then select Tools below Tax Tools.
  2. A window will pop up which says Tools Center.
  3. On this screen, select Share my file with Agent.
  4. You will see a message explaining what the diagnostic copy is.  Click okay through this screen and then you will get a Token number.
  5. Reply to this thread with your Token number and your state. This will allow us to open a copy of your return without seeing any personal information.

TurboTax CD/Download:

If you like, you can send a copy of your return that will be scrubbed to eliminate your personal data by using these steps:

  1. Click on Online in the top left menu of TurboTax CD/Download for Windows
  2. Select 'Send Tax File to Agent'
  3. Write down or send an image of your token number and state then place in this issue.
  4. We can then review your exact scenario for a solution.
  5. Please also tell us any states included in the return. This is necessary for us to view the return.

We will then be able to see exactly what you are seeing and we can determine what exactly is going on in your return and provide you with a resolution.

1). No. It is a worksheet titled "Medical Expenses Worksheet, Schedule A Line 1"

2) It appeared after I entered information from 1095-A forms.

3) I am using TurboTax Deluxe, desktop version

4) I use the step-by-step but occasionally I switch to "forms" to see how numbers are calculated or where they are coming from. I never would have discovered it if I had not gone to the "forms" format.

I do not wish to send a diagnostic; it doesn't affect my taxes in a negative way, I am just curious what that one line 2b means. I can't find that worksheet on the IRS website.

Thanks for your help.

There are 2 fields on Line 2b, both are for Form 1095-A premiums.   The top line is for the taxpayer and the second line is for the spouse on the return.

Thanks, Dawn; I understand they have separated tax payer from spouse, it just didn't make sense to me since the amounts appearing on both lines are the same. Appreciate your time; thanks again 🙂
