Married Standard Deduction

I have been using the Married Standard Deduction $27,400. Consequently I owe IRS. How can I avoid not owning? I’m still employed and my husband is retired.

Pay in more taxes in advance ... either increase the withholding at the job, SS benefits and or pension.   OR  pay some quarterly estimated payments.

When you printed out your 2020 return for your records, did it print out some 1040ES vouchers?   You should have four vouchers that are dated that can be sent to the IRS with quarterly estimated payments for your 2021 tax so that you will not have a big tax bill (and possibly an underpayment penalty) at tax time next year.
