Va Personal property tax

Under the car registration deduction, it does not list Va as a state for this deduction, however, it clearly states on this page where car registration amounts would be entered  that in Virginia, we can deduct personal property fees.  Do we enter this amount in the personal property tax section or the registration section?

While in your return, please do the following:

  • Click on Federal along the left menu.
  • Click Deductions and Credits along the top menu.
  • Scroll down until you see Cars and Other Things You Own.
  • Click Show More.
  • After clicking Show More, you will see the attached.
  • Only the amount listed on your bill as Registration Fee goes in that box.  The rest of what you paid goes in Personal Property box.

Va Personal property tax

Thankyou for your response. However, I am still unclear on where to actually enter the va personal property tax on our cars. After doing exactly what you’ve told me to do, do I enter this value under “car registration fees” or “personal property taxes”?
