Why do I have a credit amount showing on my Itemized Deductions summay for Sales and Local
Tax over $10,000 when my sales and local taxes are less than $6000

The state tax itemized deduction consists of your state and local income tax withheld and property tax paid or your sales sales tax paid plus property tax for the year, but not both. It is possible that your state and local tax withheld plus your property tax is being used in place of your sales tax and property tax, and the total is over $10,000.
Can i choose to select sales tax plus property tax rather than state tax plus property tax?
Yes,
You have the option of using "State Sales Tax" OR "State Income Tax" interchangeably with the other deductible items you may claim, such as Property Tax, Mortgage Interest. and other expenses.
Additionally, if you end up deducting State Sales Tax rather than State Income Tax and you receive a State Refund, that refund will not be taxable for the Tax Year 2022 Federal Return.
Please go back to "Deductions & Credits"
Scroll down to "Estimate and Other Taxes Paid"
Scroll down to "Sales Tax" and click Start
