Is this question asking me how much I spend this year or last year for a product for a prior year?

The TurboTax question is "How much did you spend on tax preparation in 2022? (This includes the cost of tax software, tax books, e-filing fees, and professional tax services.)" under Deductions & Credits

If I spend money on the TT software in 2023 for a 2022 TT product? Do I enter the amount I spent this year in 2023?

Or is the question asking how much I spent in 2022 for a 2021 TurboTax product?

What you actually spent in 2022 for 2021 or for any year.  You could have bought the 2022 program in Nov-Dec 2022.

Where is it asking you this?  Are you self employed and filling out Schedule C?

Unless you’re self-employed, tax preparation fees are no longer deductible in tax years 2018 through 2025 due to the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act (TCJA) that Congress signed into law on December 22, 2017. Self-employed taxpayers can still write off their tax prep fees as a business expense.
