is there any advantage to claim my 19 year old child as dependent. I will not get the child tax credit.

Dear Turbo tax: Is there any advantage to claim my 19 year old daughter as a dependent? I will not get the Child Tax Credit. And there are no exemptions any more. The only thing that worries me is a have college expenses(for which I make too much money to get any credits) but I did pull money out of her Coverdell IRA of which I am custodian. She has earned and unearned income.

Although your daughter does not qualify for the $2,000 Child Tax Credit, she probably qualifies for the Credit for Other Dependents.  Dependents who can’t be claimed for the Child Tax Credit may still qualify you for the Credit for Other Dependents. This is a non-refundable tax credit of up to $500 per qualifying person.  For more information see:

What is the $500 Credit for Other Dependents (“Family Tax Credit”)?

Note that if she qualifies as your dependent, even if you don't claim your daughter, she must indicate on her tax return that someone else "can claim" her as a dependent.

David. Thank you for your reply. I feel the need to go further. I will not get any credit for claiming my daughter as a dependent. My MFJ income is over 400k. I do not believe my daughter will even have to file. As I read the requirements for an individual to file she must have over $12200 in income. She does not. She is a college student. This gives me incentive not to claim her as a dependent(even though I do support her). My big question is where to report the education expenses I paid for her. I did get a form 1099Q and I have always listed the college expenses on my return. I know I will get no credit from the govt for these expenses but I listed them anyway previously. Maybe I do not do it now? I would surmise that parents have college expenses for graduate students who are not listed as dependents. And they are still getting 1099Q's to help pay the college bill. Sorry to be longwinded. Eric D.
