My husband is a retired physician and he has volunteered with multiple organizations since retirement. He is required to hold a current medical license and CME (continuing medical education). If this is allowable deduction under charitable contribution, where do I enter the expenses? Turbo Tax has cash, items and mileage category only.

Interesting question and probably a gray area. The IRS could argue that he derives a personal benefit from being licensed in that it allows him to work if desired and allows him to write prescriptions and other benefits of being a licensed physician. If you want to take your chances with it as a charitable deduction it would be a cash contribution as an out of pocket expense.
Thank you very much for your advice.
