If I want to conduct a "what if" scenario to see what the incremental tax is on a specific entry, how do I do that? I want to eliminate a downloaded 1009-R then add back

If you want to determine the effect of a 1099-R on your return start by:

  1. Writing down what your federal and state Refunds/Tax due.
  2. Record or print the data from the 1099-R that you're going to delete. In TurboTax go to Retirement Plans, and Social security
  3. Select IRA, 401(K), Pension ....
  4. Select the 1099 you want to clear and close [DELETE]
  5. Confirm
  6. Now you can compare the original tax information to this new result.

You report any and all 1099-Rs that you get. It doesn't matter whether tax was withheld or not, you report them all.

You may need to enter your 1099-R manually if importing it doesn't work.

You'll get a 1099-R if you received $10 or more from a retirement plan. Here's how to enter your 1099-R in TurboTax:

  1. Open (continue) return if you don't already have it open.
  2. Inside TurboTax, search for 1099-R and select the Jump to link in the search results.
  3. Answer Yes on the Your 1099-R screen, then select Continue.
    • If you land on the Your 1099-R Entries screen instead, select Add Another 1099-R, Review or Delete (click on “Trash Can” of the appropriate 1099-R).
  4. Select how you want to enter your 1099-R (import or type it in yourself) and then follow the instructions. You can add up to 20 1099-Rs.

You will need to re-import or manually enter your deleted 1099-R.
