If you did not earn enough income in 2017 to have a tax liability, you will not get the Child Tax Credit

For instance, if your tax liability is at least $1,000, you will receive $1,000 for the credit. If your tax liability is $500, your credit will be the same amount. If you have no tax liability, you will receive no credit.
