I've added approx $8k of sales tax to my deductions (we bought a new house and lots of furniture) the amount isnt being pulled into my itemized deductions. Why not?

This amount would make my total itemized deductions greater than the standard

Furniture is not a "major purchase" for which you can deduct sales tax.

Sales tax is an itemized deduction. “Major purchases” that you can enter for the sales tax deduction include:

Motor Vehicles (cars, trucks, motor homes, RV’s, sport utility vehicles and off-road vehicles

Aircraft or boats

Mobile homes

Manufactured housing

Building materials for major home improvements

You cannot deduct: furniture, jewelry, home electronics such as TV’s or computers

Your deduction is likely being limited to $10,000.

For tax years 2018 through 2025, the combined total of the state and local taxes section of Schedule A Itemized Deductions is limited to a maximum of $10,000 even if the total amount is higher.  This is true whether you are claiming state and local income tax or sales tax.
