I'd advise returning to your Federal return and stepping through the EIC interview in the Deductions section. At the end you should get a screen saying 'you don't qualify for this credit' which should prevent it from flowing into your Illinois return.
If you're using TurboTax Desktop, in FORMS mode, you could delete Schedule EIC from your Federal return and your IL returns.
Exact same situation. Don't qualify and not attempting to apply for EITC. Going into the earned Income Credit (EIC)" question gives "It turns out you don't qualify for this credit". Rerunning state review shows same error per other poster. In FORMS view, I don't see a "schedule EIC" under FED or IL.

Follow these steps:
I have created a return that does not qualify for EIC. The IL EIC form is showing in my return. Each child has a box checked for eligible, since the children are qualified to get the credit, just the parent is disqualified due to income.

Dont' want to hijack OP's thread... Per "7. Look for pink boxes showing an error and correct them.", I don't see pink boxes showing error(s) in the EIC form view? I was viewing the state form. However, when looking at forms lists on left, don't see that form under state.
Make sure you are in the state EIC worksheet and not the federal one. Scroll down to the bottom of the forms list. You will see a federal EIC form listed in the federal list and below your federal forms will be your IL state forms. The state section has its own EIC worksheet. You may want to delete your state return and go through through the IL state return again if you continue to have issues.
IL state removed, re-did and no change. Followed the steps above again and no change. Also, I was viewing the state form when hit FORMS view while in EIC state step. . However, when looking at forms lists on left, don't see anything like Schedule EIC or anything with EIC in name.
The sheet that's displayed when trying to perform your step #7 is Schdule IL-E/EIC (Exeption and Earned Income Tax Credit). (Retired, no deps/kids, No job/W2).
Ok, you have to open the form since it is not been opened yet. On that same page, scroll up and click on Open Form. Then expand (click the + next to 2025 - Illinois) Illinois and select the EIC worksheet.
I am having the exact same issue. I called Turbo Tax and spoke to a person. I told that person that I am being forced, by Turbo Tax, to mark the EIC IL-EITC box. I also told the person that I do not qualify for federal EIC or Illinois IL-EITC. The person tried to figure out why I was being forced to mark the box and he was not able to figure out why. Then he said that if I mark the box, for a credit I don't qualify for, that it will not change my Illinois tax. Then he immediately hung up, he didn't even say good-bye. This call was on March 7th.
Yes, even if you're not eligible for Federal EIC or Illinois EIC, Illinois still wants the form to be calculated and included. Checking the box to allow the calculation won't affect your tax return.
