Do you have a TurboTax Online account?

We'll help you get started or pick up where you left off.

I filed my federal return on February 10th and it still has not been approved. The only change this year is I filed for an energy credit with solar panels. Any ideas?

Do I need to provide paperwork showing my solar panel purchase? It was not requested on Turbotax. If so, who do I send it to, the IRS has not contacted me at all.

You do not need to send any type of documentation to the IRS unless the IRS sends you a letter in the mail requesting additional information.

In general, no, you do not need to provide any paperwork showing your solar panel purchase.  There is no requirement to attach paperwork when claiming the credit. Since it has been 6 weeks, you can give the IRS a call at 800-829-1040, to find out what is going on.

You should at some point get a letter from the IRS if you don't call, telling you what is going on.  Some people are needing to verify their identity and it is causing a delay in their refund process.   The IRS seems to be putting this new step into the process for many people to help cut down on Tax refund fraud.  Some people who filed in January are just now getting these letters.  So, definitely watch your mail for a letter from the IRS on how to proceed.

Other people are getting letters with codes on them telling them what they need to do next or why there is a hold up, such as an error found because of missing income.  Watch your mail and check the IRS Where's My Refund Site to find out what is happening with your refund.
