Downloaded the new form 4684 today & entered my Hurricane Irma losses. It seems to be deducting the loss on both schedule A & D (I'm itemizing deductions). Really?

Signed up to be alerted when they fix it, this is just goofy.

i filed after the update that fixed everything, then it was rejected by IRS turbo tax said to sign on that it would fix any errors, i signed on and it instantly said the errors were fixed and to refile, i did and the IRS accepted it fine and seems to be all done with just waiting for refund

Okay, I refiled on Feb 8 after I rec'd an email saying everything was fixed but IRS rejected Feb 9 morning due to INTERNAL ERROR. Then I rec'd an email yesterday afternoon (Feb 9) telling me to sign in & if TURBOTAX asks me to update, then click on link & update but if you are completing your forms online, it will automatically update.  So after 4 rejections,  I called to make absolutely sure software was updated (a lady from SC was my rep) & she said "YES" so I just refiled. Hope it works this time. Let me know if you get rejected again & I will do the same.

I also got rejected yesterday too after being told it was fixed...  I logged in and it said it was fixed and to refile.  I decided to wait till today just in case there was a 37th issue with this entire process.  I've always been happy with TurboTax but this process has been a train wreck.  Going to refile now and see what happens.

It got accepted this time, the only change was logging in and clicking file.  Remember to change the date on signatures if the day has changed.

I downloaded the update on 2/9 (using TurboTax Deluxe CD version)...filed return today (2/11) and it was accepted by the IRS in about 1-2 hours.  🙂

I filed  my  return last week when turbo tax was updated and fixed, the IRS accepted it and is sending my refund , so WHY did I get an email TODAY from  Turbo Tax saying this:

Your tax forms are ready

 The wait is over!

The tax forms we needed to finish up your taxes are ready to go.

We’re ready to walk you through:

Form 4684 p1  Form 5329-T

Simply open TurboTax on your computer and it should update automatically.

Having trouble? Make sure you’re connected to the Internet, then select Check for updates in your top TurboTax menu.

 See you soon,

 TurboTax

wasn't it fixed last week? it scares me was my return filed correctly or is this email just late coming out and it WAS fixed when I filed

Concerned customer annoying and confusing

I'm experiencing the same issue in that it's turning it into a Capital Loss Carryover and a Sale of Business Property when it was a personal home.  TurboTax is defintely filling something out wrong.  I haven't paid yet so I don't have access to look at all the forms it's done to see the exact issue though.

I went looking at the actual tax documents from the IRS and it should just be adding it to Schedule A 1040 line 28 which is the MISC area.

Schedule A 1040 = Other Miscellaneous Deductions - 28 Other—from list in instructions. List type and amount

From 4684 line 15

If you have qualified disaster losses subject to the $500 reduction, subtract line 14 from line 12 of the Form(s) 4684 reporting those losses. If the result is zero or less, see instructions. Otherwise, enter that result here and on Schedule A (Form 1040), line 28, or Form 1040NR, Schedule A, line 14. If you claim the standard deduction, also include on Schedule A (Form 1040), line 28, the amount of your standard deduction (see the instructions for Form 1040). Do not complete the rest of this section if all of your...

The only time Schedule D would be filled out or it treated as capital gain from this is if you did 1040NR but I'm a US resident.

1040NR = 14 Capital gain or (loss). Attach Schedule D (Form 1040) if required. If not required, check here

I'm getting the correct entry on Schedule A Line 28, but its also showing up on Schedule D Line 11c.  I'm itemizing and a US resident.
