I am seeing a child tax credit this year for $2500 compared to $4000 for last year. My situation same as last year. MFJ, 2 dep children, income >4K. What am I missing?

Did one of your children turn 17 last year? The credit is only $500 for dependents over 17. It is $2000 if they are under 17.

Did a child turn 17? You do not get the CTC for a child older than 16. When they turn 17, you get the $500 credit for other dependents instead.
