I am a mechanic, i am attempting to claim my tools on my taxes. ive got $16,000 in tools to claim but its saying im getting $0 back for it. can someone help me?

Where did you enter them?  Are you an Employee and get a W2?  Sorry you can not deduct employee job expenses anymore.  Or are you self employed and filling out Schedule C?  You need to upgrade to Premium to enter self employment expenses.

Are you a w-2 employee?   If so, those expenses are not deductible for tax years 2018-2025.   See Job Expenses Deduction

 

If you are self-employed, you can deduct your tool expenses (or depreciate assets) on Schedule C.   Where to enter self-employment deductions.
