HSA and itemization

We spent a lot of money last year on medical expenses and will be itemizing. Section asks how much we spent on prescriptions (I have that number), then it asks to break down hospital costs, labs, xrays etc.  Do I have to go back to all my husbands visits and stays.  He spent at least 90+ days in the hospital etc.  I have outside labs, dentist, orthodontists etc..  Can I deduct the amt.shown on what the EOB says I owe and what I actually spent on prescriptions and the remainder is what I spent on healthcare in general. OR do I have to go back with each visit.  I have a spreadsheet for the year but it doesn't break down what comprised of the visit  only what was billed, allowed, paid etc.

HSA and itemization

You can estimate it based upon your method above.

But be sure to retain all of your support should the IRS ever request additional support.

As long as the expenses are all deductible medical expenses, you should be fine.

Here is some additional information on deductible medical expenses for your reference.
