How to enter a furnace into energy credits?

To claim the credit on your return:

  1. Open your return. 
  2. Go to Deductions and Credits 
  3. Click Start/ Edit next to Home Energy Credits
  4. On the screen Energy Efficient Home Improvements select Yes, I made energy efficient improvements or have a carryforward 
  5. continue and answer questions related to your home. 
  6. On the screen Did you have any of these residential clean energy costs in 2023?, Answer No and continue. 
  7. On the screen Did you have any of these qualified energy efficiency improvements in 2023? Answer No and continue.
  8. On the screen Did you have any of these residential energy property costs in 2023? Answer Yes and continue. 
  9. On the following screen  Enter Your Qualified Energy Costs use the box next to Water boilers for the cost of the furnace. If you click on the Learn More link it will describe -Enter the amounts you paid for a natural gas, propane, or oil furnace or hot water boilers

The credit is 30% of the total costs up to a maximum of $600. Include the costs for labor, assembly, preparation, or installation.

The cost goes on form 5695 line 24a.

How to enter a furnace into energy credits?

Somehow, Turbotax left the word "furnace" out of the program.  Furnaces go in the same place as water boilers (for home heating, not hot water heaters for drinking water.)

Good Lord Maya!   How difficult can it be for the software folks to add a few extra words to that line for "Water Boilers"?

 

We've had tons of folks trying to find their "Furnace" entry since January. ...even when they are already in the correct Home Energy Credit interview.

 

This is ridiculous.  BAHHHH !
