Since this is the first year I am using vehicle for business use then it seems incorrect to answer it with "YES" as it is not yet defined how vehicle was used first year.
So, I answered "NO". However, if I answer "NO", then according t explanation in the same window seems I am giving up my rights to use standard mileage rate:
"We ask because if you deducted your actual expense the first year, you cannot switch to the standard mileage deduction this year".
So, it is unclear how turbotax in case I answer "NO" could distinguish between these two cases:
1. First year use where I still get to chose between Standard mileage rate and Actual expenses?
2. Actual expenses was used in the past so I can't use Standard mileage rate anymore.
In fact if I answer it with "NO", then next window greets me with "Based on the information you entered you don't qualify for the standard mileage rate deduction".
However, if I answer with "YES", then next window greets me with "Nice! Based on what you've told us so far, your standard mileage rate deduction is $200".
So how to answer this question for first year use?
It seems turbotax should either
1. have 3 choice answer here or
2. ask "Did you use actual expense in first year?" (instead of standard mileage rate to cover this 3 answer choice correctly)
