Can you help me with another question? It says that I have the same number for two of my 1099R on the State return I am not sure what that means can you help me with that as well?
I had another question. this was in reference to the 1099R on the state page it was it has multiple entries of the same number but I have only entered it once. how can i fix that?
Is that state Indiana? There have been some reports, but they are not confirmed and I don't know of a workaround (if needed).
What I would do, because this is cheap and easy is to find the 1099-R(s), delete them and re-add them, and see if this ameliorates the situation. Just make sure that you have copies of the 1099-Rs before you delete them.
I'm stuck on this line as well, no matter what I enter here TT will not accept it.
Are you reporting Employer contributions made to your HSA on line 9? This number is also likely to be the number in box 12 code 'W' on your W-2.
This TurboTax Help states:
Code W in Box 12 of your W2 indicates that you have an employer-sponsored Health Savings Account and that there was money deposited into your HSA through the payroll system at work. Code W opens up Form 8889, Health Savings Accounts, on your tax return.
Are you reporting Qualified HSA funding distributions on line 10?
Are you using a Desktop version and entering a number through the Forms option? Please clarify.
I'm running into the same issue too. I can't move past this form.
IRS form 8889 may have been generated in your tax return by a code W in box 12 of your W-2. Code W reports company contributions (including employee contributions through a cafeteria plan) to an employee's health savings account (HSA). This form is used to report HSA contributions, distributions and withdrawals to the IRS.
What error messages are you receiving that will not allow you to move beyond this form? Please clarify.
You are required to answer the questions about your HSA transactions. Are your answers making the HSA transactions taxable income?
I can't get passed this screen for the HSA 8889-T. The lines are already filled in
so, I'm not sure what it's asking of me.
"I can't get passed this screen for the HSA 8889-T"
Are you in the Review? What is the message? What is the context of this question?
Remember that we in the Community cannot see your screen nor your private tax data, so help us help you.
I'm working on my daughter's tax return. Her employer has an employer funded HSA that is showing on her W2. She did not use those funds yet. She is filing a 1040 as a SINGLE filer but she cannot claim herself as a dependent yet. She is a dependent on my tax return. Turbotax generated a 8889-T form for her even though the software says she is ineligible to qualify for the HSA deduction as someone else claims her as a dependent. How do I delete form 8889-T, so I can file her return? The TT review features keep taking me back to that form. Help please!
Your daughter may have contributions but no deduction is allowed. Please be sure the 8889 shows line 13 deduction of $0. The contributions would be on the 8889 so the form would exist. The HSA should be on her w2 so that it is transferring over.
You need to:
Publication 969 (2021), Health Savings Accounts and Other states: If another taxpayer is entitled to claim you as a dependent, you can't claim a deduction for an HSA contribution.
thx, just to confirm that the trick works for me with 2022 tax .
