Thank you; I successfully erased (I thought) the entire page and it was gone on the list. I did interview from the start, and when done it showed the loss number I expected. Went back to form 4797 and **bleep** page was there with no changes! I'm not touching the interview again because I know it's right.
Maybe I let it go and let the IRS find it!
OK, this is getting very upsetting and costing waaaay to much time.
In 4797, the accurate sale description is entered horizontally; Your sample shows vertical column that does not show up on form.
In Part 1, #2 the proper information above is sale #1 and that's all there should be.
However there is a second sale after that.. which should not be there, and is not included in the top page description list. I have tried every suggestion to erase that line.. It's stopping me from completing and filing my taxes!!!
The re-enterable page will not let me do anything except to create a new file. It will not let me delete anything. i can find no reference to this "2nd sale" anywhere in any interviews.
I'm from the pen and ink generation and probably screwed something up. Turbo tax check list says I'm good to go, but Turbo Tax checklist doesn't know the 2nd sale would have me investigated in a heartbeat.
please help..this needs to go out tomorrow.
I had no choice but to clear everything and start again last year.
An IRS Form 4797 sale of business property can originate in several places. You need to return where the 'sale' was generated and delete the entry. The hard part is finding where the entry originated.
TIP: If the button to the right of these pathways say Start, you probably have not been there so do not bother going there. The button will likely say Edit/Add or Revisit.
Review Federal / Wages & Income / Your income / Other Business Situations / Sale of Business Property.
Rental property may have been reported sold through the Your property assets summary. Review Federal / Wages & Income / Your income / Rentals, Royalties, and Farm / Rental Properties and Royalties (Sch E).
Business property may have been reported sold through the self-employment Business asset summary. Review Federal / Wages & Income / Your income / Self-Employment / Self-employment income and expenses.
These are the likely sources of the entry.
