How can I get the amount of fee for my car registration?

You cannot.    Car registration is not deductible.  Only that part of registration that is a property tax based on the value of the car is, and not all states have such a tax.

Even then it is, it would be an itemized deduction so unless all your itemized deductions are more then the standard deduction it will be of no benefit.  Deductions are not a refund - they simply lower your taxable income.

It depends on your state and if they use the value of the vehicle as part of the registration.

To enter Car registration fees -

  • Click on Federal Taxes (Personal using Home & Business)
  • Click on Deductions and Credits
  • Click on I'll choose what I work on
  • Scroll down to Cars and Other Things You Own
  • On Car Registration Fees, click on the start or update button

Or enter car tags in the Search box located in the upper right of the program screen. Click on Jump to car tags

As long as the personal property tax is based on the value of the vehicle, then it would be deductible on your return.

Currently only the following states charge a fee based on the vehicle value:

Alabama

Arizona

Arkansas

California

Colorado

Iowa

Indiana

Kentucky

Louisiana

Massachusetts

Michigan

Minnesota

Mississippi

Missouri

Montana

Nebraska

Nevada

New Hampshire

North Carolina

South Carolina

Washington

Wyoming
