I am an adult graduate student with a family.
I am also self-employed as an educational contractor.
The family medical insurance is obtained through the university. As a grad assistant, my portion is covered, but not that of my family, which is paid out of pocket.
Can I claim that expense as "self-employed health insurance"?
Thanks

Yes, as long as you have net profit from your self-employed business that does not exceed the cost of the insurance.
To learn more, take a look at the following TurboTax article:
Can I deduct health insurance premiums if I'm self-employed?
Thanks for the quick response.
You said "net profits that does not exceed the cost of the insurance". Is that correct?
The article you linked to states:
"To get this deduction, your Schedule C must show a net profit.
The deduction amount generally can't exceed your net profit amount."
What am I missing?
Thank you.
The article is correct. Your Schedule C must show a net profit and the self-employed health insurance deduction can't exceed your net profit amount.
