My significant other passed away three years ago. I am just now cleaning out closets. I donated a lot of his clothes to two different charities. I can't file my taxes because it says I need form 8283 that won't be ready until February 13. I don't have original costs of everything that I purchased. And both charities did not give me an itemized list. How do I get past this so I can file my taxes?

If you are deducting donations that are more than $500, you must include the Form 8283 and include the needed information. If the forms are not ready, you can file now without the deduction and amend the tax return later.
Deductions Over $500 but Not Over $5,000
Why is a form that has not changed not available? Why do we have to wait to get our money and do more work? We paid for this software. How is it not ready to use?
As of this moment, there is a 2024 version of this form available from irs.gov. It's a draft version that cannot be used for filing:
www.irs.gov/draft-tax-forms?find=8283
The 2024 draft version looks the same as the 2023 version to me, except for the year printed on the form. I don't know what the IRS is waiting for, but it doesn't seem unreasonable for TT to hold off until it's finalized.
I realize it's frustrating. I'm waiting for it too.
Form 8283 is scheduled to be released and available tomorrow, February 5th.
