I purchased 3 new energy efficient exterior doors in February 2025 and had them installed in April 2025. Form 5695 is requiring a QMID in order to declare the cost of the doors. I do not have a QMID. And, the manufacturer closed their business in June 2025 so I have no way to call the manufacturer to obtain the QMID information. How can I declare my door expense?

Sorry, you can't. When Congress updated the credit in 2022, they required a qualifying number beginning in 2025. The reason was probably to cut down on fraud and/or people claiming credits for property items that did not actually comply with the standards. (Any new door doesn't qualify, only doors that exceed certain requirements.). If the manufacturer did not register with the IRS and get a QMID, they are not a "qualified" manufacturer and you can't claim the credit.
Have checked if the manufacturer is on the list from the IRS?
If it is there, is there any chance it is listed on this third-party website?
I am puzzled/surprised. Section 25C says that each item of qualifying property needs its own QMID, and the QMID must be printed on the property item. The IRS seems to have decided to identify manufacturers in general, rather than assigning a QMID to each different item the manufacturer produces (since not all products will meet the required standard.) And form 5695 has space for a 15-digit QMID, with the first 4 identifying the company and the last 11 identifying the specific item.
I suppose the point is largely moot since the credit is cancelled as of the 12/31/25. But the IRS isn't even compliant with the law. They must have decided not to waste effort on fully implementing the system for a dead credit.
I checked both of these websites and the manufacturer is not listed. Thank you.

For 2025, it was scheduled to only have the 4 digit manufacturer number (probably part of some IRS "transition" guidance, but I would need to look that up). For 2026 (before the energy credits were removed) it was scheduled to have the entire number for the specific item.
