Foreign tax credit not calculating

I have entered all of my foreign income and foreign taxes paid from several 1099 INTs, 1099 DIVs and a K-1.  I have triple checked that all the amounts are correct.  On my first pass through TT, I selected the "deduction" for foreign taxes option, but then realized I wanted to use the credit.  I went back to the "Estimates and other taxes paid > Foreign Taxes" and clicked "update".  I selected "Yes - I want to try the credit instead of the deduction".   At that point, TT tells me - "You've met the requirements for taking the foreign tax credits without filling out form 1116, but we don't see any foreign tax payments made ..... "  

What the heck?  I can SEE the entries for both foreign taxes paid and foreign income in the TT forms!!  What am I doing wrong?

NEVER MIND ... I tried again, ignored that error statement and suddenly now it is calculating correctly.  Sorry for the interruption.
