can I amend a previous tax return 2020 and 2021 if my wife and son lived in another country, but I supported financially, they did not have a social security number then to be included in my return, but now they do and reside in the United States?

for the child, the SSN must be issued prior to the due date of the return. So if you want to amend 2020, then the SSN would have had to be issued prior to May 15, 2021 and for the 2021 return, issued by April 15, 2022.
for the spouse, you'd have to amend the filing to joint. it's doable.
Thank you so much,
So just leave out my son completely?
And amend with just my wife?
So just lcompletely son out complee
You can amend to add them both HOWEVER you will not get any credits that the child would usually get you ... only the other dependent deduction up to $500 for the child. The TT program will try to give them to you but the IRS will not allow it.
