I am recently divorced (Oct 2023). My divorce was sudden. I was paying taxes as a married individual until September 2023. Had I known I would be divorced by the end of the year, I would have adjusted my paychecks to take taxes as a single tax payer. My question is, with that information, am I able to file head of household since I supported my ex husband for more than 6 months of 2023?

No. Your ex-husband cannot be a qualifying dependent for you to file as Head of Household. Since your marriage ended by the end of 2023, you can only file as Single or Head of Household. If you do not have a qualifying dependent --usually but not always a child-- then you cannot file as HOH.

If you qualify as Head of Household, when you enter your marital status (single or married filing separately) into MyInfo, and then enter your qualifying dependent, TurboTax will offer HOH as your filing status.
