I accidentally directly contributed to HSA in 2022 (I had a HDHP in 2021). I realized while working on my 2022 taxes, so I reached out to my HSA custodian for a Return of Excess Contribution and received the excess amount back (along with additional earnings of $100+ on the contribution) in 2023 before I filed my 2022 taxes. I received a 1099-SA for the total that was distributed back to me. How do I report this on Turbo Tax? Do I get taxed on the additional earnings only? or the total even though I realized my mistake before the filing date?
