I mistakenly made an excess contribution of $45 to my HSA. I corrected it and received $45 plus 0.55 in interest back. Later I will receive a 1099. How do I report this in Turbotax?
You'll need to sign in or create an account to connect with an expert.
The total of $46 will be included in income on your 1040.
If you made the withdrawal in 2024, you'll receive a 2024 Form 1099-SA with a code 2 in box 3.
Once you're logged in to your account, on the Tax Home screen:
- click Income & Expenses and then Review/Edit
- scroll down to Less Common Income and click Start next to 1099-SA, HSA, MSA
- check the HSA box and click Continue
- select Yes and then enter the details from your 1099-SA
- choose Yes if you made your contributions through your employer
- continue through the screens to answer the remaining questions about your HSA
