DoorDash mileage deduction

My son used my car to do DoorDash last summer.  I realize now that he can not deduct mileage since he did not own the car.

Is there anyway for me to take this deduction or are we both out of luck and he will now have to pay taxes ?

No, you cannot take that deduction. However, your son can deduct the actual expenses incurred while doing DoorDash. For example, if he paid for gas, oil, repairs, tires, insurance, registration fees, licenses, he can deduct expenses attributable to the portion of the total miles driven that are business miles.

He will report all these expenses on Schedule C but make sure he uses the actual expenses instead of standard mileage.

Thanks, yes, i am aware of this also but I think I have two issues with that..  1) he didn't pay for any of that, I did. and 2) even if he could, we didn't track the actuals as we'd expected to use the mileage deduction.  Sounds like 'lesson learned'.

Thank you.
