Does repair or replacement of old solar panels qualify for the 30% tax credit?
I recently purchased a foreclosed home. It had solar installed however, the previous owner took the panels on the lower roof and the inverter with them. Other hardware such as frames are left behind. The Solar company I spoke with says that the house is grandfathered to a more favorable Net Metering 1.0 instead of the NEM Time of use if we just declare it as repair and replacement of broken and missing panel and stayed with the old system size.
I'm worried that by doing this, I will be disqualified with the 30% tax credit.

If it was a newly constructed home, and the cost of the solar is broken out, you are able to get a credit.
If it's an existing home, you can't get credit because you did not pay to install the solar system.
