I tried the instructions and the question never comes back. I recall it asking me once but it never triggers the question again.
I tried to complete this today and it worked. I was able to e-file like I wanted to.
Go back and complete the federal income section having to do with 1099-R. I had this problem, and found that I never completed that section (because I did not have a 1099-R). But, if you complete the section anyway, it will uncheck that box for you.
I had this problem for a couple weeks, at least. I thought disaster relief had something to do w/ stimmy checks, but it absolutely does not. I thought I tried every combo, but I either found the perfect combo or TT quietly fixed a bug:
Go to "Tax Tools -> Delete a Form -> *delete form 1099-R*
THEN go to Federal -> wages & income -> go through the 401-k, retirement, disaster relief section (i.e. no I didn't receive any disaster relief), and continue through until you're PAST the wages & income section
At this point it was FINALLY clear for me. Cheers
I see all this discussion of not taking the distribution, however, I did. It is reported in last year's return. Am I supposed to file an inaccurate return an say "no"? Been having challenges with TT for several years now and it seems to get worse every year.
My question is: I have taken the disaster distribution, how should I handle the entry on my return?
Thanks
Thank you!
This is a fix that I have found that works a lot of the time. When you answer no under the 401k section, and get back to the Wages and Income summary, click continue at the bottom of the screen, and you will have ANOTHER question that is usually automatically checked yes. It should not be in there twice but it is.
I have CD Turbotax and this method worked for me.
This is the tip you all need. I wrestled with this stupid check box for days and couldn’t find any help that actually helped, until this. Read it, do it, be done with this crap for another year. THANK YOU ANNETTEB6
Thanks for the suggestions! I went through the steps you listed for TTD and it fixed my problem.
Maybe the experts should tell people that this section ONLY applies to the retirement portion of the cares act and not for everyone who got the cares act.
the wrap up income button is gone. it say done with income and therefore the question that comes after is gone also. Do anybody know JUMPT TO LINK?
TurboTax Online/TurboTax Desktop customers may be experiencing an issue when going through the final review and seeing an error. You may be unable to remove the checkbox from the Disaster Tax Relief section.

This does not work!
