Dependent child

My daughter went to college in California and lived there the entire year for college as well as her internship.  Her expenses for college were paid by me as well as her housing.  I was wondering if I'm able to declare her as a dependent since I paid for her room/boad/tuition?

Dependent child

Yes, you probably can claim your daughter as a dependent.

Generally, you can claim your child as a dependent if:

·      The child is a U.S. citizen or resident who lived with you over half the year (temporary absences from the home while away at school count as time spent living with you);

·      The child is under age 19, or under age 24 if a full-time student;

·      You provide over half of their support;

·      The child is not claimed as a dependent by anyone else; and

·      The child is not filing a joint return.
