When I enter the $250 ( 10a ) for teacher cost and the $300 ( 10b) for cash charitable contributions for a total of $550 (10c), I get an error on the tax check. I can make the error go away if I remove the $300. I don't know why .
No. you don't enter educator's deduction on line 10a. You need to delete the amount on line 10a. The educator expense deduction may be an adjustment to income but it's enttered on line 10, Part 2 ,Schedule 1 of form 1040.
The Educator Expense Deduction allows eligible educators to deduct up to $250 worth of qualified expenses from their income. Qualified expenses include purchases such as: books ,classroom supplies, computer, software, and other supplies used in the classroom by the students..
