Claiming dependent on stimulus

I want to make sure I have correct information on claiming a dependent on your stimulus/recovery rebate credit.  I live with my mother in law my twins have lived with her so she claims them on her tax returns, which I am ok with because at that time she was supporting them. My question is I moved in with her a year ago to help take care of my kids, they are listed on my government benefits, I am disabled, therefore I do not normally file taxes, but this year I did for the simple fact I did not receive the total stimulus. I did list my kids for that and only that because I do take care of them with their food, clothes transportation whatever they need. I did not claim them pre say on my tax return just for the stimulus. My mother in law said I messed her up on her taxes could this be true. We both support them live under the same roof?

Claiming dependent on stimulus

Dependents can only be entered on one tax return.  If your mother provides over one-half of the support to the children then she can claim the children on her tax return.  You have to amend your tax return removing the children from your tax return.

If she also provides over one-half of your support and you do not have gross income in 2020 of $4,300 or more then she can probably also claim you as a dependent.

The IRS Form 1040-X for amending a 2020 tax return is scheduled to be available on 03/25/2021 (subject to change)
