I'm using TurboTax to prepare my taxes as I do every year, but I'm running into some things that I'm not sure about with everything going on in 2021 and the CTCs.
Child #5 was born Dec 3rd. Through the year I received half of the advanced CTC for the other children, aged 9, 5, 4, 2. Doing the math, that was $13,800/2=$6,900 over the six months. With the new addition, I would expect the remaining $6,900 for those 4 kids, plus the $3,600 for #5 for a total of $10,500. However, TurboTax is closer to ~$7,000. I'm MFJ and we are well below the cutoff for income for phaseouts. It's almost as if TurboTax isn't yet calculating the new child.
Also, I believe the new child is also eligible for an additional $1,400 stimulus, which also doesn't seem to be reflected in the running refund total.
Is there a spot at the end where TurboTax will do its final sweep to calculate and/or am I missing something? I've heard from multiple people that TurboTax doesn't have the right forms/the forms correct to others are running into the issue, but I'm not sure. Thank you.

1. Your newborn child is considered by the IRS as having lived with you the WHOLE YEAR. Please revisit the Personal Info section of TurboTax to make sure that you have entered this correctly. Your newborn should be eligible for the Child Tax credit of $3,600.
2. Your newborn child is eligible for the the third stimulus of $1,400.
If you did not receive the stimulus for a dependent, you can claim it on your 2021 tax return as the Recovery Rebate Credit.
In TurboTax Online, to claim the Recovery Rebate credit please do the following:
Please read this TurboTax Help topic for more information on the third stimulus.
To check that the Recovery Rebate has been transferred to line 30 of form 1040 and included in your tax refund, please preview your form 1040 by following these steps:
Thank you. regarding the new baby, all of that is selected properly. However it only shows a total credit of $10,500. One thing I notice is when I preview the form, all my other children have a box that can be checked/unchecked, but the newest baby has a box that is checked, but grayed out. Not sure if that means anything. She is also several lines apart from the other children.
The total child tax credit of $10,500 is correct. You have a balance of $6,900 for your older children plus $3,600 for the newborn, which makes a total of $10,500.
Thank you. I think I get it now--I do owe some tax so it's being reflected in the overall refund total of less than $10,500. Makes sense.
