I can't file my tax because the Charitable contribution has a unacceptable value - 300
300 is automatically inserted
I tried entering 0
That didn't work either
Is the problem that I contribute over $12,000 but don't get any credit
What alternative tax product did you go to?
I've been a loyal TT customer for more than 15 years.... But, if they don't fix this PROPERLY BEFORE I am ready to file (waiting on a W2), then I am jumping ship.
I'm done with their haphazard way of managing things....
And NO WAY to report a bug...
After I "click "Deductions and Credits"
Where is "Review/Edit
I agree this is totally irresponsible
It should not be impossible to proceed because on an Turbo Tax error
Nobody cares!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I had this error also but fixed it by entering $600 for that value instead of $300. The reason is that I was filing jointly with my wife, and in the text on the form above that box it says to enter $600 if you are filing jointly. But this is definitely a bug that needs fixing ASAP.
I can't seem to find how to reply to everyone so I decided to reply to @fasteddo
If you are married and filing jointly then change the $300. standard to $600. and this will fix the problem.
@A3fins Think for just a sec.... IF it was THAT easy, do you really think there'd be hundreds of us still here in this Community gathering torches and pitchforks?
It ain't that simple for 90%+ of folks.... It is a TRUE multi-faceted BUG. It requires competent analysis and programming, and finally at LEAST a patch distro.
@cautery You know what, [bleep] off! I was just trying to make peoples lives a little easier, cause it worked for me, unless you go back through the flow, then it changes again back to $300. So I know it is a bug, but like I said. [bleep] OFF!
and find the post from @acsmaggart seems to work for this user as well.
We are NOT taking the Standard Deduction. As a married couple do we list $600? If not, how should be calculated?
But what if our cash donations were $1500 and we are itemizing?
If you are itemizing your return you should enter the actual amount of your cash and noncash charitable contributions on your Schedule A information. The $300/$600 deduction is in addition to the Standard Deduction as a special rule for tax-year 2021.
See IRS Charitable Tax Benefit for more information.
@rls4655780
Thank you for the response. It is confusing, however, as the worksheet states “if you take the Standard Deduction enter either $300 or $600”. From your response it should say regardless of standard or itemized those figures apply. Correct?
Thanks
The special Charity Donation deduction is actually called "Cash contributions for individuals who do not itemize deductions".
It is only for taxpayers that take the Standard Deduction.
The reasoning is this: so many people now take the Standard Deduction that charities were seeing donations drop. This was passed to encourage donating by providing a new place to claim a deduction.
No, the special Charity Donation deduction is actually called "Cash contributions for individuals who do not itemize deductions."
The worksheet is ONLY for those Taxpayer who are claiming the Standard Deduction, not Itemizing.
If you are Itemizing Deductions, you can claim more than 600 in Charity Deductions but it will be reported on Schedule A , NOT on your 1040 LINE 12b.
The worksheet is ONLY for 1040 Line 12b.
1040 Line 12b is ONLY used by Taxpayers that take the Standard Deduction
